Chipper and cruel student council leader Katie (Sarah Dugdale) gets stalked and dispatched in an early kill scene set in a church, which suggests that the filmmakers are more interested in plot twists than character development. And honestly, Katie’s not much more of a character than, say, Makani, whose main appeal stems from her barely considered past. The graduating class at Osborne High is being targeted by a masked assailant, intent on exposing the darkest secret of each victim, and only a group of misfit outsiders can stop the killings... In the fictional town of Osborne, Nebraska, high school football player Jackson Pace awakens from a nap to find his house covered in photographs taken on the night he beat up a gay classmate, Caleb, as part of a haze. Jackson is then stabbed to death by someone wearing a mask resembling his face, and the killer then exposes the film of Caleb's assault to the entire school.

So I was around all of these weird scans, and I was like, “Guys, I’m feeling like shit.” So they had a banana and a coffee mug for me. We’re going to get your face.” So everybody got 3D scanned, and then our special effects and makeup departments ended up making multiples of each character’s mask. There was one that was specifically for camera so it looked super, super close to the character, and then another one was for our stunt performers in case the mask broke or fell off during a stunt. Yes, we had a couple other scenes that we ended up reshooting as well — scenes that Netflix was very specific about — so we were thankful for it. It meant that Netflix was on board and wanted us to put our best foot forward.

Maybe this is a product of the movie’s nature as an adaptation, but there’s never really a moment in “There’s Someone Inside Your House” that suggests its protagonists are real enough to be worth rooting for. They talk a lot about hiding their true selves from each other, but often don’t seem human enough to be credibly shallow. Riverton police say they found one person dead in a "suspicious" early-morning fire Friday, after the initial 911 call indicated someone's girlfriend was trapped inside the home. Regrettably, this frequently gave rise to sentiments of envy and anger, particularly when it appeared that the casting team favored another performer over someone else. Thoughts such as, “How come she gets assigned more characters than I do? ” or “Why was she chosen for the parade despite my longer tenure here?
Makani Young (Sydney Park) is a high school student who transferred from Hawaii to this small-town Nebraska school to live with her grandmother about a year before the mayhem begins. Though Makani also has a mysterious past to contend with, she and her new friends must work together to unmask this murderous maniac before it's too late for them all. Makani Young (Sydney Park) is a high school student with a secret.
That costuming choice underscores the killer’s ideology that each of the victims deserves death for their hypocrisy. But those slasher sequences lack the propulsive energy and over-the-top grotesquerie needed to jolt There’s Someone Inside Your House to life. There are bursts of blood from sliced-open tendons, torsos, and throats, but the artificiality of that candy-red gore extends to the whole contrived movie. Also, the unspoken rule that the first two kills establish -- that the local bogeyman is going after people who are secretly bad people -- gets entirely demolished by the third kill when the target is a decent person.

The production team may have also filmed a few sequences at the Spanish Banks Beach, which is situated in the West Point Grey neighborhood along the shores of English Bay. Additionally, the actors were spotted bungee jumping in Whistler (a town north of Vancouver) just around the time the production for the movie wrapped up. However, it is unclear whether it also features in the film. The principal photography of the Patrick Brice directorial was primarily carried out in Vancouver. Located in western Canada, the city and the surrounding region is a sought-after filming location thanks to the snow-capped mountains and other mesmerizing natural locales.

So that show was brilliant, and the writers were so smart. "There's Someone Inside Your House" doesn't shy away from the fact that it was inspired by classic slasher films, although it does imbue itself with plenty of modern qualities to make it a fresh take on the genre. A significant aspect of the film is the diverse cast, which features BIPOC characters, a non-binary lead character, and openly gay characters — without making it a big deal or anything to be shocked by. No one seems to catch the longing eyes Makani and Ollie are making at each other, because Makani’s friends are too busy doing what teenagers in all horror movies do.

Shifting to There’s Someone Inside Your House, there’s a unique vibe to this movie that sets it apart from its predecessors, and I think it’s because the tone parallels the personality of your character, Makani. The movie is a bit melancholy, distant and pensive like her, and the tonal/character change at the very, very end seems to support this theory as well. According to Makani, she was a cheerleader at her old school, and the younger girls were forced to attend a bonfire and drink until they were on the verge of blacking out.
The plot follows Makani Young (Park), a senior transfer student from Hawaii who finds herself in the center of gruesome murder cases in her newly acquainted town of Osborne, Nebraska. Brice also wrote and directed 2015's "The Overnight, an edgy mystery-comedy with a star-studded cast, and he also helmed the 2019 comedy-horror "Corporate Animals," along with several key episodes of HBO's anthology series "Room 104." Critics also praised the book for its creatively macabre murder scenes and its "relentless" villain that keeps readers on their toes. Quickly though, that blueprint is ditched in favor of a story where anyone, including our heroes, who by all plot armor accounts can't secretly be bigots or homophobes, are in danger. But then...it just becomes a story about someone killing any teenager in town for any reason.
At one point, one of the other cheerleaders named Jasmine (Tally Rodin) pushed Makani drunkenly, and an equally-inebriated Makani pushed back — only Jasmine accidentally fell into the fire and was severely burned. Makani was charged and went to trial, but was later acquitted, and her parents sent her to live in Nebraska to start over. "Like, these are some of our best friends that have been in our lives — both of us — for a very long time, so," she explained.
Someone’s girlfriend was reported as trapped in the house, an RPD call log from that moment says. Authorities are investigating an early-morning Riverton house fire in which a person was found dead, as suspicious. Melanie continued, “Disney typically has strict height requirements for its characters, but I’ve seen these rules be ignored if hiring staff really likes someone’s look. It helped me realize that character-performer roles aren’t always earned. Face characters like myself are chosen primarily for how we look.
If it was up to you, would you have preferred to not know the killer’s identity until the day you shot the reveal scene? I would be so worried about tipping my hand, inadvertently, in an earlier scene. It’s a crazy birth story because I swallowed my mother’s umbilical cord. So when I was born through a C-section, I was not crying and I was actually dead. So they had to smack my back and get all of the stuff out of me… There’s more to the birth story, but Halloween is the day. (Laughs.) It was the scariest day of my mom’s life, as she always likes to remind me.
They flew us out to Vancouver again, which was amazing. It was so weird, too, because we had to quarantine for two weeks, but the rewrites made sense. He took Netflix’s notes and was like, “Okay, here’s what we’re going to do.
